MUMBAI: The Mumbai Customs Department has arrested a Ghanaian passenger who was trying to smuggle cocaine into India at the international airport here. He had kept this drug hidden in his stomach through 87 ‘capsules’. The customs department said the value of 1,300 grams of cocaine recovered from the passenger is Rs 13 crore.

The incident took place on August 28, when at the Mumbai International Airport, the passenger was stopped after being suspicious and taken to a government hospital. A tweet from the Twitter handle of Mumbai Customs-3 said, “The passenger arrived at Mumbai airport from Ghana and was stopped by customs officials on suspicion.

During the search, the officers found nothing from his luggage, but on the investigation, it was found that he had 87 capsules in his stomach, in which cocaine was concealed. The accused was admitted to a government hospital, where he ingested these capsules for three days. The customs department said the passenger was arrested under the Anti-Drug Act and an investigation is on into the matter.
