Joshimath: Amid protests, the process of demolishing two hotels Malari Inn and Mount View in Joshimath has started. Orders have been given to dismantle both these hotels which were hanging due to landslides. Because these hotels are also a threat to the surrounding buildings. However, along with the hotel owners, the local people are opposing the demolition of the hotel without fixing the compensation. Apart from this, no one’s building is being demolished yet.

After Tuesday, security arrangements were increased near Mount View Hotel and Malari Inn Hotel on Wednesday as well. Even today, talks were going on between the administration and the local people regarding a one-time settlement and proper compensation, but no decision could be taken. The hotel owners and local people have blocked the Badrinath National Highway for 2 days. Earlier on Tuesday, there was a ruckus throughout the day regarding the demolition of two hotels in Joshimath. When the affected people kept blocking the Badrinath National Highway again and again, the administration team reached the spot, but nothing could be done. Late in the night, when the administration team once again reached the spot, people again created a ruckus on the highway.

On the other hand, the survey of buildings affected by landslides is being done by the administration. People are being temporarily shifted from unsafe buildings to safer places. An amount of 1.5 lacks is being given as interim assistance to the affected families immediately. In Rs 50,000 is being provided in advance for house shifting and Rs 1 lakh for disaster relief, which will be adjusted later.

The administration said to give compensation at the market rate
The secretary of CM Dhami says that the government is providing better and better facilities to the people. Those who want to go to a rented house, they will be given 4 thousand rupees per month for 6 months. Earlier, while holding a meeting with the stakeholders and the local people, he made it clear that those affected by the landslide would be given compensation at the market rate. The market rate will be decided after taking the suggestions of the stakeholders and in the public interest only. He clarified that the interests of the local people will be taken full care of. In the Joshimath town area, 723 buildings have been identified which have developed cracks due to landslides. In view of security, to date 462 people of 131 families have been shifted to temporary relief camps, and the people of Joshimath are very worried these days.
