The first time when the last date was extended, a fine of Rs 500 was imposed. Next time it was increased to Rs 1000. This time it has not yet been revealed that now how much fine will be imposed for linking Aadhaar with PAN. According to the government order, all PAN cards made before July 1, 2017, have to be linked to Aadhaar under section 139AA of the Income Tax Act. In July last year, the government told Parliament that 46,70,66,691 people have linked their Aadhaar with PAN. However, PAN card has been issued to a total of 61,73,16,313 people in the country.

Why link PAN-Aadhaar
The government wants that every PAN card should be linked with a unique number. This can be possible only after linking with Aadhaar. The purpose behind this is to reduce tax rigging. Often people do tax evasion through duplicate PAN card. After linking with Aadhaar, it will be almost impossible to do so.
