On this day the house is cleaned after bath and vegetarian food is taken to protect the mind from tamasic tendencies. On this day, after taking a bath, wearing new clothes, after worshiping, take gram dal, pumpkin vegetable, and rice as prasad. After the fast is eaten, all the family members take food.

Day 2 – Kharna
The whole day’s fast is observed in Kharna. On this day one does not accept even a drop of Vratijal. In the evening, the fasting prepares jaggery kheer on a wooden stove and eats bread greased with ghee. The rest of the members of the house also accept it as Prasad. From then on, the 36-hour waterless fast begins. It is a mythological belief that Chhathi Maiya enters the house only after Kharna Puja.

Day 3 – Sandhya Arghya
Arghya is offered to the Sun God in the evening on Kartik Shukla Shashthi, the third day of the Chhath festival. In the evening, Arghya soup is decorated with fruits, Thekua, rice laddus, etc. in a bamboo basket, after which the devotees offer Arghya with their families to Surya. At the time of Arghya, water and milk are offered to the Sun God, and Chhathi Maiya is worshiped with a soup filled with prasad. After the worship of Sun God, songs of Chhathi Mata are sung in the night and a fast story is heard.

Day 4 – Usha Arghya
Arghya is offered to the Sun God in the morning on the last day of the Chhath festival. On this day, before sunrise, after reaching the river Ghat, offer Arghya to the rising sun. After this, a boon is sought from Chhath Mata for the protection of the child and the happiness and peace of the whole family. After the puja, the devotees pass it by drinking sherbet of raw milk and eating some prasad. This fast ends with the morning Arghya.
