Jammu: After heavy rains in Ramban district, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed on Friday due to landslides in many places. This has trapped over 3000 vehicles on the highway. Officials gave this information. Officials said the highway was blocked on Thursday due to Trishul diversion, battery goggles, and landslides in Puntiyal areas.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Highway Ramban) Ajay Anand said that the route between Banihal to Ramban has been greatly affected by landslides and Sherbibi, Moon Passi, Ramsu, Puntiyal, Digdol, Battery Chashma, Monkey Mor, Kelamur, Marug, Trishul Mor and Chanderkot The route has been blocked at more than a dozen places including the area due to stone fall. He said about 150 stranded vehicles were allowed to leave on Thursday, but the road was blocked again after fresh landslides.

He said that landslides caused by falling stones were hampering the removal of debris already accumulated and it would take at least a day to clear the roads. Officials said that work to restore movement is going on fast. More than 3,000 vehicles were stranded on either side of the highway and traffic stopped at Qazigund and Udhampur Chanderkot soon after the highway was blocked. The highway was closed for two days last week due to landslides following heavy rains in Ramban district.
