Banihal/Jammu: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed due to heavy rains for the last two days, was reopened on Saturday. Officials gave this information.

Thousands of vehicles were stuck on Thursday as the highway was blocked at more than a dozen places between Udhampur and Banihal. Deputy Superintendent of Police, National Highway, Ajay Anand told, “The highway was opened for single direction traffic at 10 am. Traffic from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed after evacuating the stranded vehicles. ” Heavy rains occurred in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two days. This led to landslides and stone fall from the mountains.

The official said on Saturday, “After the difficult task of removing debris deposited on the roads, the road could be made traffic worthy this morning but there was a slight delay in the work due to continuous stone fall from the mountains at Panthial and Monkey turn.” He said that after clearing the weather and removing debris from the highway, the passenger vehicles and trucks carrying essential materials towards Kashmir were allowed to go first. “Traffic is running smoothly and we hope that traffic will be allowed towards Kashmir by noon,” he said.
