New Delhi: Industrialist Rahul Bajaj has said goodbye to the world on Saturday. He has passed away at the age of 83. He was the chairman of Bajaj Group. He was awarded the 2001 Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. At the same time, from 2006 to 2010, he was also a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Rahul Bajaj has helped the Bajaj Group reach heights over five decades. He was born on 10 June 1938 in Kolkata. He took over the leadership of the Bajaj Group in the 1960s. He left the post of chairman in 2005, after which his son Rajiv Bajaj took over.

It is to be known that, Rahul Bajaj had studied economics and law. He holds an Honors degree in Economics from Delhi University, a Law degree from Bombay University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. In 2008, he split Bajaj Auto into three units. This includes Bajaj Auto, finance company Bajaj Finserv and a holding company.

Rahul Bajaj was born on 10 June 1938 in Bengal Presidency. Born in Marwari, Rajasthan, Rahul belongs to Kashikabas of Sikar district in Rajasthan. His early education was completed at Cathedral & John Connon School. While he had an Economics (Hons) degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and a law degree from Bombay University. After this, Rahul completed his MBA from Harvard Business School. Let us tell you that the foundation of the Bajaj business house was actually laid by Jamnalal Bajaj, Rahul’s grandfather. Which was carried forward by Rahul Bajaj and took the group to the heights.

Resigned from the post of chairman in 2021
Veteran industrialist Rahul Bajaj had resigned as the chairman of Bajaj Auto on 29 April 2021 last year. He left the post citing his age. He served as the group’s chairman since 1972. According to the report, Rahul Bajaj started his responsibility in the Bajaj Group in the year 1965. After that, he worked tirelessly to make the group one of the largest business groups in the country.

Chetak came under the leadership of Rahul
Everyone is aware of the name of Bajaj Chetak. Let us tell you that it was under the leadership of Rahul Bajaj that Chetak Scooter came into existence and soon became the most preferred scooter brand in the two-wheeler category. Rahul was the chairman of that Bajaj group, Chetak’s popularity was such that at that time the Bajaj group was being called the heartbeat of India. Significantly, in the 1980s, Bajaj was the top manufacturer of two-wheeler scooters. The demand for the group’s Chetak brand scooter was so high that there was a waiting period of up to 10 years for it.

Rahul Bajaj was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2001 in the field of industry and trade. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha. Rahul Bajaj has also been awarded the highest civilian honor of France named ‘Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour’. Rahul Bajaj is a businessman who opposed liberalization. He has been conferred with honorary doctorates by seven universities including IIT Roorkee.
