India won first test by defeating South Africa

Centurion: After slaying Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin finally showed his power as India beat South Africa by 113 runs on the fifth day of the first Test on Thursday in the three-match series. Gained a lead from 0.

Chasing a target of 305 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 191 in their second innings in the second over of the second session on the fifth day. India scored 327 in its first innings and 174 in the second innings. South Africa could only manage 197 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul, who scored a century in the first innings for India, was adjudged the man of the match.

This is India’s fourth win in Test matches on South African soil but it has made a strong move towards winning the Test series for the first time in this country. The second match of the series will be played in Johannesburg from January 3. India took three wickets in the morning session to reduce South Africa’s score to 182 for seven by lunch. After lunch, he took out the remaining three wickets within two overs and registered a resounding victory. Ashwin (2 for 18) ended the match with the last two wickets in consecutive balls.

Bumrah (3 for 50) started the morning session by dismissing South African captain Dean Elgar (77 off 156 balls), followed by Mohammed Siraj (2 for 47) and Mohammed Shami (3 for 63). He played his role well. Rain was predicted in the evening session and in such a situation, India wanted to get wickets as soon as possible. Temba Bavuma (35 not out) held on to one end but there was no player left to support him in the end.

Seeing the uneven bounce he was getting from the pitch, Elgar took an attacking stance. He added 36 runs with Bavuma in the first 45 minutes. Shami meanwhile dropped Elgar’s catch on his own delivery, but it was Bumrah who put the South African captain in trouble. Elgar was dismissed leg before by Bumrah taking an angle and the umpire also did not hesitate to raise a finger. Elgar also reluctantly took the DRS but he too seemed aware of the consequences.

Quinton de Kock (21) hit two beautiful fours on Bumrah as soon as he came but he was soon bowled by Siraj. Shami then sent Viaan Mulder (one) to the pavilion as soon as he got caught behind the wicket. The skies were clear even after lunch, making Indians happy. In such a situation, Shami fed Marco Jensen (13) on the fifth ball itself by getting caught by Rishabh Pant on the ball going out of the off-stump. Ashwin then ensured India’s big win by catching Kagiso Rabada at backward point and Lungi Ngidi at leg slip.
