United Nations: India has appealed for greater cooperation between nations and technology companies to stop the dissemination of misinformation related to Covid-19, saying that fake news and fake news Videos (Morphed Videos) reduce people’s trust in the authorities to deal with this disease.

The long-term effects of Covid-19 were discussed in the “Culture of Peace” program of the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations. So far, more than 28 million cases of coronavirus infection have been reported worldwide and more than nine lakh people have died.

Paulomi Tripathi, Counselor for India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said, “This global epidemic has shown the current dilemma of society with information.” We are receiving misinformation, which has endangered the lives and livelihoods of millions of people, divided societies through fake news and manipulated videos, and weakened the trust of authorities in dealing with the disease. “

She said that due to lack of access to information, critical processes of decision making and positive social change are suffocating. Tripathi said that as social and political hostility between the epidemic increased, tensions in mutual relations between countries were increasing and violence, bigotry, and discrimination increased during the epidemic.

She said, “We need more cooperation between countries and other partners including technology to prevent the spread of misinformation.” Speaking on the occasion, UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutarais said that due to the epidemic, there is a danger of less trust in public institutions and democratic processes in developed countries.

She said, “Since the founding of the United Nations, we have never faced such a complex and multi-dimensional threat to global peace and security.” “In the midst of this grave threat, it has become more important to work for a culture of peace as an important basis of global cooperation,” said Gutarace.
