Mumbai: After Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, now Maharashtra is seeing havoc. Mumbai and Pune have been raining heavily since last night. Life has been affected in both cities. Apart from this, heavy rainfall has also occurred in Ratnagiri. The rain water has come inside people’s homes. Traffic has to be stopped on the highway. The meteorological department has declared a red alert for Pune and other areas of Maharashtra, while there is an orange alert for Mumbai. The Meteorological Department has asked people to stay in homes today. Water rains have occurred in many areas including Byculla, Hindmata, Kurla, King Circle after the nightly rains in Mumbai. The NDRF has sent 2 teams to Karnataka and 3 teams to Maharashtra for relief and rescue operations. Teams sent to Maharashtra have been deployed at Solpur, Pune and Latur. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of damage to paddy crop, banana, papaya trees, drumstick trees and horticultural crops due to heavy rains. Flood / water logging and landslides may occur in low-lying areas.

The online exams to be held today at Savitri Bai Phule University, Pune have been canceled due to heavy rains. The new schedule will be released soon.

No such heavy rains in Hyderabad for 20 years
Earlier on Wednesday, heavy rains in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have caused havoc on the people. About 25 people have died in both states. The maximum number of deaths occurred in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. It has been reported that there was no such heavy rainfall for the last 20 years. 10 people have died in Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah assured the two states of all possible help.

Heavy rains have flooded roads in many districts of Setalangana. Hyderabad has the worst condition. Due to the strong currents of water here, the land has been eroded in many places. The state government has ordered the closure of all private institutions by Thursday. People are currently advised to stay in homes.

Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister Talsani Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting with senior officials and reviewed the rescue and relief operations. Three family members, including a child, were killed when a wall collapsed in the Gagan Pahar region of Hyderabad. However, ten people, including a child, were killed in the collapse of the walls of two houses on the border of Chandringutta police station. In another incident, a 40-year-old woman and her daughter died after the roof of the house collapsed.

In many areas under the Greater Hyderabad municipality, heavy rains have led to water logging. State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has directed all the districts to be on high alert. In view of the danger, electricity supply has been stopped in many areas of Hyderabad. Hussain Sagar Lake of Hyderabad has reached its highest level. Many low-lying areas of the city are flooded.
