New Delhi: Dholavira, a city of the Harappan period in Gujarat has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The United Nations organization gave this information on Tuesday.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) tweeted, “Dholavira: In India, a Harappan city just added to the World Heritage List. Congratulations!” In the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, India has got a new World Heritage Site in the form of Rudreshwar/Rampappa Temple in Telangana, which dates back to the 13th century.

Gujarat till now had three World Heritage Sites, including Champaner near Pavagadh, Rani ki Vav in Patan, and the historic city of Ahmedabad. This session of the World Heritage Committee is being chaired from Fuzhou in China and is being done online. It started on July 16 and will conclude on July 31.

Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said in a tweet, “It gives me immense pleasure to share with the people of India that now Dholavira has been included in the 40th UNESCO World Heritage List of India.” He said that today is a proud day for India, especially for Gujarat. He said, “Since 2014, 10 new places of India have been included in the World Heritage List, which is a quarter of our such sites….”
