New Delhi: “Vaishnav Jan To”, the favorite hymn of the Father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi, was released in the Kashmiri language on Bapu’s 151st birth anniversary on Friday. It aims to spread the message of peace in Kashmir. This hymn was composed by the 15th-century Gujarati poet-saint Narasimha Mehta some 600 years ago. This hymn gives the message of values like humanity, sympathy, and truth, which Gandhi Ji faithfully upheld throughout his life.

That is why activist Kusum Kaul Vyas, together with popular Kashmiri singer Gulzar Ahmed Ganei and writer Shaza Haqbari, made up their mind to release this on the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He told PTI-Bhasha, “It is basically a Gujarati song and therefore many people do not understand its true meaning.” I thought that if it was translated into Kashmiri language, then perhaps the message of peace and harmony would reach the people.

Perhaps some people started thinking about this song and why Gandhiji loved it so much. ” It is said that Gandhiji loved this hymn and it was often sung in his prayer meetings to spread the message of peace and harmony. He said that over the years, many popular artists like Gangubai Hangal, Pandit Jasraj and Lata Mangeshkar introduced this differently, but for the first time it is being released in the Kashmiri language.

Vyas made up his mind to translate it into the Kashmiri language during the corona virus lockdown. It has been voiced by Gulzar Ahmed Ganai, a Kashmiri singer and has been translated by Shahbaz Haqbari. The entire shooting of this song has been done in the Kashmir Valley including the Shankaracharya temple in Srinagar.
