Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh dies, PM Modi pays tribute

New Delhi: Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh died here on Sunday after a prolonged illness. He was 82. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders paid tribute to Singh, saying that he had faithfully served India and he will be remembered for his unique approach in matters related to politics and society. Singh was considered close to former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Singh, a former military officer, had been ill since his house collapsed in August 2014. He was admitted to the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital. Since then, he was hospitalized several times. In June this year, he was again hospitalized.

In his condolence message, the Prime Minister said, “Jaswant ji will be remembered for his unique approach in matters related to politics and society. He also contributed to strengthening the BJP. I am missing the dialogue with him. My condolences to his family and supporters. om Shanti.” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also condoled the death of Jaswant Singh. Rajnath said that Jaswant Singh devotedly served India.
