Former President Pranab Mukherjee dies at age 84, 7 days of national mourning

New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee has passed away. He was 84 years old. His son Abhijit Mukherjee (Abhijit Mukherjee) has confirmed the former president’s death by tweeting. After the death of Pranab Mukherjee, the central government has announced 7-day national mourning. Mukherjee breathed his last in a military hospital. The funeral of the former president will be done in Delhi on Tuesday.

Pranab Mukherjee was ill for a long time. Pranab Mukherjee’s infection in his lungs was confirmed on Monday morning. After the infection in the lungs, his condition was getting worse.

Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the Army Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in Delhi on August 10. On the same day, surgery was done in the emergency to remove clotting from the brain. Since then, his condition remained critical. Pranab had also said that on the 10th itself he should be corona positive.

Many veterans including the president paid tribute
President Ramnath Kovind tweeted and paid tribute to Pranab Mukherjee’s death. Ramnath Kovind wrote in a tweet that it was sad to hear the news of Pranab Mukherjee’s demise. His departure is the end of an era. Pranab Mukherjee served the country, today the whole country is saddened by his departure.

Pranab Mukherjee was sworn in as the 13th President of India in July 2012. He held this post till 25 July 2017. Pranab Mukherjee was honored with Bharat Ratna on 26 January 2019. Pranab Mukherjee received a master’s degree in history and political science as well as a law degree from Calcutta University. He was also a lawyer and college professor and was also awarded an honorary D. Litt degree. Mukherjee started his career first as a college professor and later as a journalist. Pranab Mukherjee was born on 11 December 1935, in Virbhum district of West Bengal (West Bengal). His father was active in the Congress party since 1920. Mukherjee’s father was a respected freedom fighter who also served more than 10 years in prison as a result of the caliphate of British rule.

Rajya Sabha reached for the first time in 1969
Mukherjee, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress, has a parliamentary career of nearly five decades. He first reached the Rajya Sabha in 1969. The then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, impressed by his merit, made him a member of the Rajya Sabha on behalf of the Congress Party in 1969, at the age of just 35 years. He was then re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1975, 1981, 1993 and 1999. Pranab Mukherjee continued to be elected to many cabinet posts from 1982 to 1984 due to his qualifications and became the Finance Minister of India in 1984.

When Mukherjee broke away from Congress
Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India during Pranab Mukherjee’s tenure as Finance Minister. After the Lok Sabha elections after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Mukherjee became a victim of a conspiracy by the supporters of Rajiv Gandhi, due to which he was not included in the cabinet. Not only this, but he was also expelled from the Congress party for some time. During that time, he formed his political party National Socialist Congress, but after the agreement with Rajiv Gandhi in 1989, he merged his party into Congress Party.
