Mathura: This is going to be the first time in the history of independent India when a female prisoner will be hanged. Shabnam, who lives in Amroha, will be sentenced to death in Uttar Pradesh’s only women’s hangout in Mathura. Preparations have been started for this. Pawan Jallad of Meerut who hanged Nirbhaya’s accused has also inspected the hanging house twice. However, the date of hanging is not fixed yet.

Significantly, in April 2008, Shabnam, a resident of Amroha, brutally murdered seven of her family members with an ax, along with her lover. In this case, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Shabnam. The President has also rejected his mercy petition. So after independence, Shabnam will be the first female prisoner to be hanged.

No woman has been hanged till date
Significantly, in the Mathura jail, a female hanging house was built 150 years ago. But no woman has been hanged since independence. Senior Jail Superintendent Shailendra Kumar Maitreya said that the date of hanging is not fixed yet, but we have started the preparation. Shabnam will be hanged as soon as the death warrant is issued.

Rope will be ordered from Bihar
According to the jail superintendent, the Pawan executioner has inspected the hanging house twice. He saw a reduction in the latch, which is being corrected. Rope is being called for hanging from Bihar’s Buxar. If there was no bottleneck at the last minute, Shabnam would be the first woman to be hanged after independence.
