New Delhi: The Union and the Delhi governments have been urged to take preventive measures and create awareness as experts at IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, have predicted a major earthquake in Delhi-NCR soon.
The IIT’s departments of applied geophysics and seismology on Friday forecast that a major quake may hit the city, NCR in the coming days. Time has come for the Union and Delhi governments to take all required measures for its prevention and create awareness,” said PK Khan, Professor at the applied geophysics department and the head of the seismology department at IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.
Delhi-NCR has experienced 11 tremors in the past two months, which shows an increase in the accumulation of strain energy, the professor said. Recurrent tremors of small magnitudes indicate a bigger earthquake in the Delhi NCR area.
