New Delhi: Three officers of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and six Dope Control Officers (DCOs) combined to take samples of players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting on 19 September. Will go to Arab Emirates (UAE). According to NADA sources, the agency is aiming to collect at least 50 samples during the competition and beyond the competition in this T20 tournament running till 10 November.

A senior official of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) told, “Nada’s nine people will stay in the UAE and they will also seek help from the UAE’s National Anti-Doping Organization if they need it. “Each of the three sites of the NADA will have three teams comprising one officer and two DCOs. Apart from this, employees of the local anti-doping organization will also stay at each site.

He, however, did not say whether NADA would bear the entire cost or BCCI would contribute to it as the tournament was being held outside India. NADA bears the cost of collecting, transporting and testing samples in India. Sources said, “NADA officials will be asked to remain in the BCCI’s bio-safe environment.” “

NADA has asked the BCCI to set up five dope control stations in the UAE. Three of them will be at the match venues in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, while two will be at practice centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The number of samples may be limited but there is a possibility that BCCI may also collect some blood samples as it will be easier to deliver samples from Dubai to Doha. Doha has a WADA accredited laboratory.
