Court reserves order on framing of charges against Tharoor

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday reserved its judgment on the issue of framing charges against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the death of his wife. Special Judge Geetanjali Goyal heard the arguments of Delhi Police and Tharoor’s lawyers on the issue. The court is expected to pronounce the verdict on 29 April.

During the cross-examination, where the police requested for framing of charges under various sections including Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, appearing for Tharoor, told the court That the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has found his client completely guilty.

Pahwa urged Tharoor to be discharged and said that there was no evidence against his client under charges of section 498A (cruelty to a woman by a husband or any of his relatives) or 306 (abetment to suicide) of Bhadansan. Pushkar was found dead on the night of 17 January 2014 at a hotel here. Delhi Police had registered a case against Tharoor under sections 498A and 306 of Bhadansan, but he was not arrested. Tharoor was granted bail on July 5, 2018.
