Chandigarh: According to big news, the matter of giving furlough to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a life sentence in jail, has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court has issued a notice to the Haryana government and summoned its reply.

It is noteworthy that Justice BS Walia, during the hearing on Friday, issued a notice to the state government saying that, on Monday, all the documents and records should be presented in the court, on the basis of which the decision has been taken to grant furlough to Ram Rahim. At the same time, the court has also ordered the government to present its side by filing a written affidavit in this matter.

During the arguments in the court, Haryana Advocate General Baldev Raj Mahajan said in the court that, the Commissioner of Rohtak Division has issued furlough on the basis of police report and rules of Good Conduct Prisoners with certain conditions. At the same time, if anything happens against these conditions, then the furlough can be canceled immediately. After hearing the arguments of all the parties, the court has issued a notice to the government and ordered to produce the record on Monday.

Let us tell you that in this case Paramjit Singh Sohali (56), who is contesting as an independent candidate from Samana constituency in the Punjab Assembly elections, has filed a petition in the High Court. The petition filed by Sohali has argued that the Dera chief has been released on furlough at a time when the Punjab Assembly elections are due on February 20. It has also been argued in the petition that there is a danger of breach of peace in Punjab due to the furlough of the Dera chief. At the same time, according to the petition, the Dera’s influence remains in some areas of Punjab, so the release of the Dera chief is likely to have adverse consequences in the state assembly elections.

Significantly, in the year 2017, the Dera chief was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping two followers. Then a special CBI court sentenced Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others to life imprisonment in the 2002 murder case of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief is currently serving his sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail.
