New Delhi: Citroen has introduced its latest offering in the Indian market, the Citroen Basalt, a sleek coupe-SUV designed to turn heads. Priced attractively at an introductory rate of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), this launch price is currently available only to customers who book before October 31. With this aggressive pricing, Citroen is setting the stage to challenge popular models like the Tata Nexon, whose base variant starts at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) and is powered by the 1.2-liter Revotron turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5-liter Revotorq turbocharged diesel engine.

Citroen Basalt: A Closer Look at Pricing and Design

While Citroen has only revealed the starting price for the Basalt, the full pricing details are expected in the coming days. The Basalt’s design shares many similarities with the Citroen C3 Aircross, featuring a distinctive V-shaped pattern for its LED DRLs and a split grille that gives it a bold, modern look. The SUV also sports LED projector headlights and a front bumper with a silver finish accented by a red color trim, adding a sporty touch to its appearance.

Aesthetic Appeal and Color Options

The Citroen Basalt offers a range of color choices, catering to diverse tastes. It is available in five monotone options: Polar White, Steel Gray, Platinum Gray, Cosmo Blue, and Garnet Red. For those who prefer a dual-tone finish, the Basalt is also available in two combinations: Polar White with a Platinum Gray roof and Garnet Red with a Perla Nera Black roof.

The coupe-like roofline adds to the vehicle’s dynamic stance, complemented by 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the Basalt features wraparound halogen taillights and black-out bumpers, enhancing its stylish and sporty design.

Interior and Features: Comfort Meets Technology

Stepping inside, the Citroen Basalt’s cabin closely mirrors that of the C3 Aircross, with a familiar layout that includes a similar dashboard design, a dual digital display setup featuring a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 7-inch digital driver display. The interior is equipped with a host of modern amenities, including automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and adjustable under-thigh support (up to 87mm) for the rear seats, ensuring comfort during long drives.

However, one feature that might leave some customers wanting more is the absence of a sunroof—a feature that could have enhanced the vehicle’s appeal even further.

Safety and Engine Options

On the safety front, the Citroen Basalt is well-equipped, offering six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ensuring peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.

The Citroen Basalt comes with two engine options. The first is a 1.2-liter petrol engine that delivers 82 hp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The second option is a more powerful 110 hp turbocharged petrol engine, mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, producing 205 Nm of torque. This combination promises a balanced mix of performance and efficiency.
