Change in Manipur election dates; Now votes will be cast on February 28 and March 5

New Delhi: The Central Election Commission of India has changed the dates for the Manipur Assembly elections. According to the commission, now the first phase of polling in the state will be held on February 28 instead of February 27. With this, the second phase of polling will be held on March 5 instead of March 3.

Main fight between BJP and Congress
The main contest is between the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been in power for the last five years in the state elections, and the Congress, which won the maximum number of MLAs in the last election.

Christian organizations had requested to change the date
According to media reports, political parties and organizations had demanded to change the date of the first phase of assembly elections to February 27. Christian organizations said that Sunday is the prayer day of the Christian community. On January 17, leaders of the All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) had requested the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to change the date. He had also submitted a memorandum related to this to CEO Manipur.
