New Delhi: In all the states and union territories of the country including the National Capital Territory of Delhi-NCR, drivers will no longer need to carry Driving License (DL) and Registration Certificate (RC) with them. Now the drivers on the road can show the documents kept in digital form in the DigiLocker platform or mParivahan mobile app to the traffic police and the transport department. After the order issued by the Union Ministry of Transport and Highways, now all the states will have to accept the documents present in the m-parivahan app and Digi locker. Now it has also been given legal recognition. After this order, all the state and union territories are making people aware by giving advertisements about it in the newspapers.
Now if your driving license, vehicle registration card is present in the m-Parivahan mobile app and DG Locker, then it will be valid across the country. Till now these documents were available on m-parivahan app, but they were not being given legal recognition, but now it has been legally recognized. Documents kept in DG Locker have now been validated in all states and union territories of the country. For its statutory recognition, state governments are now issuing notifications through newspapers.
Transport department engaged in making people aware
The Transport Department has now issued a notification under the Motor Vehicle Act to recognize the documents kept in the M Transport Mobile App and DG Locker. Till now all the documents were not visible on the website of the transport department of many states, due to not being linked to m transport mobile app, but now if you stop the traffic police or transport department officials on the roads and ask them to show the license. If so, you can show your document in these two ways also.
Also valid under the provisions of IT Act 2000
Now the electronic record of driving license and registration certificate available on Digi-Locker or m-Parivahan will also be treated at par with the original document as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000. Therefore, the traffic police and the enforcement wing of the transport department will duly accept the electronic form of driving license and registration certificate. Also, in the notification of the Transport Department, it has been said that if the soft copy of the driving license and registration certificate, which is in any other format, then it will not be accepted as the original record.
What is DigiLocker
Digital Locker or DigiLocker DigiLocker is a kind of virtual locker, which was launched by PM Modi in July 2015. DigiLocker was launched under the Digital India campaign. It is mandatory for you to have an Aadhar card to open a DigiLocker account. In DigiLocker, citizens of the country can store many of their important documents like PAN card, voter ID, passport and now driving license or any other important government certificates.
