Ladakh: Captain Shiva Chauhan is the first woman officer to be posted in the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen glacier. Captain Shiva Chauhan hopes that after this achievement of hers, more girls will join the Indian Army. Captain Shiva Chauhan of Fire and Fury Sappers became the first woman officer to be posted at Kumar Post after completing rigorous training in the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen. Captain Shiva told ANI ‘It is really a great experience. Apart from this, I feel that from now on more women officers will come here to serve in this area. Perhaps more women can be inspired to join the Indian Army.

Sharing her experience, Captain of Fire and Fury Sappers said, ‘There are many super excitements and possibilities in my life. After coming to Siachen, I came to know about other Army Corps stationed in this area. Indian Army also shared a video ahead of International Women’s Day. In this video, Captain Shiva Chauhan was seen participating in activities like cycling and rock climbing in Siachen amidst extremely low temperatures. Captain Shiva also said that nowadays women officers are given enough opportunities in all areas of the job. They work equally at par with their male counterparts.

Captain Shiva also gave a message to those girls who wish to join the Indian Army. Shiva said that ‘I would like to tell them that they should be physically and mentally strong. They should be mentally prepared to be sent to areas like Siachen. They may have to move from one area to another as this is what the job demands. It is a way of life, not just a job. Captain Chauhan was commissioned into the army in May 2021. She hails from Rajasthan and completed her schooling in Udaipur. He is a graduate of Civil Engineering from NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur.
