New Delhi: The last hearing on the petition related to the release of the convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case in the Supreme Court was postponed once again on Tuesday. Petitions were filed by many people including Bilkis Bano in the Supreme Court when the Gujarat government released the convicts before the completion of their sentence. It was requested in the petition that the decision of the Gujarat government to release the gang rape convicts should be quashed. But the appeal is yet to be heard. A bench of Justices KM Joseph and BV Nagaratna fixed the date of the final hearing on May 2. But the hearing did not happen.

According to media reports, Justice Joseph told the convicts during the hearing that they do not want this bench to hear the matter. The lawyers appearing for the convicts objected to the affidavit of Bilkis Bano. Bilkis had appealed to the court that the notice given to the culprits should be declared as deemed service. On this, the counsel for the convicts said during the hearing that Bilkis falsely claimed in the affidavit that the convicts refused to accept the notice. According to the lawyer, the culprits have not been able to get the notice. Because they were not present in the city.

The lawyer claimed that Bilkis had committed fraud with the court. Also demanded action against Bilkis. After this, the bench adjourned the hearing. So that the lawyers of all the convicts can register their objections in the counter affidavit. Along with this, the bench also directed that all the convicts who have not received the notice should be made available through their police station. Justice KM Joseph will retire on 16 June. His last working day is on 19 May.

At the same time, Justice Joseph got angry about the delay in this hearing and then he told the counsel for the convicts that it is clear that you do not want this bench to hear the matter. The court has decided to adjourn the hearing of the case till July.
