Ban on rallies and gatherings extended till January 31, exemption will be available for first phase

New Delhi: The Central Election Commission of India has extended the ban imposed on rallies and meetings in the upcoming assembly elections till January 31. However, the commission has given some relief to the political parties for the first phase of the elections. Under which political parties can address 500 people.

The commission said, “Exemption has been given for physical public meetings of political parties/contesting candidates for Phase I from January 28, for Phase II with effect from February 1. The limit of 5 ppl has been increased to 10 for the door-to-door campaign. Video vans are allowed for publicity at designated open spaces with COVID restrictions.”

The Election Commission on Saturday issued an order to remove the District Magistrates of Bareilly, Firozabad, and Kanpur Nagar and the Superintendents of Police of Firozabad and Kaushambi. IAS Suryapal Gangwar has been made the District Magistrate of Firozabad, IAS Shivkant Dwivedi, Bareilly, and IAS Neha Sharma, Kanpur Nagar. Apart from this, IPS Ashish Tiwari has been made SP of Firozabad and Hemraj Meena, Kaushambi.
