Amritsar: A youth who tried to desecrate Sri Guru Granth Sahib was killed on Saturday at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. According to the information, the youth had crossed the security circle inside Sachkhand Sahib and picked up the sword kept there, after which the servicemen present there caught him. The identity of the youth could not be confirmed, although he is reportedly being told around the age of twenty.

The servicemen caught the young man and immediately handed him over to the task force of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC). The Times of India quoted an eyewitness as saying that the young man was waiting for darshan with the Sangat, but suddenly he climbed onto the security railing and tried to lift the gold sword placed in front of the ‘Sarup’ of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. started doing Another eyewitness said that the accused also tried to take flower petals kept nearby.

A police officer, on condition of anonymity, confirmed to TOI that the youth had been lynched and that his body was not handed over to the police, but was lying in the civil hospital. The police officer also told that no document or identity card has been found from the youth.
