American Dream and Promise Act

New Delhi: There is good news for immigrants living in America. On Wednesday, Congress Woman Lucille Roybal-Allard introduced the ‘American Dream and Promise Act 2021’. This law will help in granting citizenship to children whose parents have come to the United States legally or under the H-1B program. Now legally correct and fully documented children will be easier to get US citizenship. Legally correct legal dreamers were sidelined in earlier bills.

According to an English newspaper report, legal dreamers are called children whose parents arrived in the United States in a legal manner called the H-1B program. David J. Baer, the immigration policy analyst at the Keto Institute, tweeted, “The Dream and Promise Act has been introduced and it covers most of the legal dreamers in America.” He wrote, “This is a great improvement in the bill, which will help about 2 lakh immigrants to get American citizenship.”

He told that this bill will help all the people present in the EB Green Card backlog and many L and H-1B visa holders. According to an earlier study by Bayer, the figure of India’s people in the employment-based green card backlog reached 7.41 lakh in April 2020, whose estimated weight time was 84 years. About 1.36 lakh children from Indian families were involved in this backlog and it was estimated that 84 thousand 675 of these children would cross the age limit without getting a green card.

Improv The Dream, an organization of young expatriates, was also advocating the elimination of aging and citizenship for every child born in America. According to the website of the institution, ‘Our parents brought us here at an average age of 5 years and we have been living here for an average of 12 years. But due to many problems in the immigration system, we do not have a clear path to get citizenship.

The special thing is that the Dreamers are currently protected from the department and can also work in the country. But legal dreamers do not have this facility. Partner and children of H-1B workers get H-4 or Dependent Visa. When these children cross the age of 21, they cannot work further with this visa. They are either converted to F-1 visas or have to return to India.
