New Delhi: The Personnel Department has taken away the job of dozens of Air India pilots overnight. Apart from the pilots, many crew members contractors have not been renewed, they have also been shown the way out. The pilots allege that this action taken by the Personnel Department is illegal. They have demanded intervention from Air India management on this issue. The Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) has written a letter to Air India President and Managing Director Rajiv Bansal about this.

18 cabin crew members in South Zone also terminated
The ICPA letter states that 50 pilots have received illegal termination letters from the personnel department for violation of the company’s service rules. The organization has also said in a tweet that the services of our 50 pilots have been terminated overnight without following due process. This is a tremendous setback for those who serve the nation at the time of this epidemic. Apart from this, the contract has not been renewed for many crew members of the Southern Base who have completed their five-year term. It is being told that 18 cabin crew services have been terminated in the southern region.

‘Dismissed pilot’s flight duty messed with security’
In a letter to the CMD of Air India, the pilots’ association said that the pilots, who had withdrawn between the 6-month notice period after resigning last year, were abruptly terminated at 10 pm on Thursday night. The pilots allege that the crew was not informed about the acceptance of their resignations and the subsequent notice period. After the office was closed on August 13, it was evident that the services of these pilots had also ended. Even after this, a pilot was put on duty to operate AI 804/506 on 14 August. However, the pilots who flew these flights were not technically Air India employees after August 13.

‘This termination is against the operation manual and service rules’
The ICPA has said that the imposition of flight duty after termination of services is a matter of comedic and serious violation of security. The ICPA reminded, “The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air India had assured that unlike other airlines, Air India would not hire any of its employees. The association has also said that issuing the ammunition letter overnight is against Air India’s operation manual and service rules. The personnel department has not followed the procedure properly before removing the pilots.
