Adani Wilmar buys many big brands including ‘Kohinoor’, will strengthen food business

Mumbai: Adani Wilmar Limited (AWL) on Tuesday announced the acquisition of several brands, including the famous ‘Kohinoor’ brand, from McCormick Switzerland GmbH. The company did not give details of the amount of these deals made with the intention of strengthening the food business.

The acquisition will give AWL exclusive rights to the ‘Kohinoor’ basmati rice brand in India along with its ‘ready-to-cook’, ‘ready-to-eat’ curry and food portfolio under the Kohinoor brand, the company said in a statement. Kohinoor’s in-house brand portfolio will strengthen AWL’s position in the FMCG segment.

With this acquisition, AWL will be able to offer more products in rice and other value-added food businesses. Angshu Mallick, CEO and Managing Director, AWL said, “We are delighted to welcome the Kohinoor brand to the Fortune family.

This acquisition is in line with our business strategy to expand our portfolio in the high-margin branded staples and food products segment.” He said that the Kohinoor brand has a strong brand identity and this will help in cementing the company’s position in the food FMCG segment.
