New Delhi: According to the latest data from the National Crime Record Bureau, 36 soldiers of the Armed Forces, who came under the Union Home Ministry, committed suicide in 2019. There have been a total of 433 such incidents in six years. According to the data, during the six years, 433 Central Armed Police Forces personnel committed suicide. The year 2018 recorded the lowest 28 such cases while in 2014, the highest number of 175 cases were reported.

The number of such incidents was 60 in the year 2017 while 74 in 2016 and 60 in 2015. The CAPF, which comes under the administrative control of the Home Ministry, consists of seven central security forces. In addition to Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (Indo-Tibetan Border) Police), Sashastra Seema Bal) and National Security Guard.

The NCRB said that on 1 January 2019, there were 9,23,800 personnel in the CAPF. These forces play an important role in protecting the borders and assisting the central and state governments in maintaining internal security and curbing illegal activities.

The NCRB did not provide details of suicide cases force-wise.

CRPF jawan commits suicide
The news of the suicide of a CRPF jawan has come out on Wednesday itself. The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir committed suicide by allegedly shooting himself with a government rifle on Wednesday. Officials said 52-year-old Amrit Bhardwaj was stationed in the 33rd Battalion and shot himself soon after returning to the barrack in the police complex at Kotli after doing night duty.

Case investigation
Bhadarwah Superintendent of Police Raj Singh Gauria said, “The incident occurred at around 7.30 am and ASI was rushed to Tunrat Sub District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.” Further investigation is being done by registering a case under the sections.
The Superintendent of Police said that after completing all the legal formalities, the body has been handed over to the CRPF. He said that the reason for immediate suicide is not known. Officials said that Bhardwaj was originally from Bharalipur village in Assam.
