Dubai: 30 Indian workers staying after their visa expired in the United Arab Emirates have been barred from boarding a flight to India due to non-payment of fines. It has been reported in the media on Friday. According to Gulf News, 40 workers from Rajasthan were to fly to Jaipur on 17 July in a chartered plane.

All these workers worked in the construction sector. The news stated that only 10 of them could complete the immigration check while the rest were owed fines. One of the workers told the newspaper, “Some of us came here on visa visas while some others on residential visas which have already expired. We were not aware that we would have to pay a fine. Some people were fined ten thousand to 11 thousand dirhams (Rs 2,03,700 – Rs 2,24,000) while some were fined very little. According to him, the trapped laborers decided to stay at the airport as their income was zero for the last few months.

Another worker told, “The company had booked our ticket. But we could not fly. The company has now asked to go back to the room. We have no point in going to an empty room where we have spent months without pay. We have given all our goods to the workers living in the neighborhood. ”According to the news, the workers spent four days at the airport. After this, the Consulate General of India in Dubai came forward to help him. The workers have been sent to the house provided by the company. Later he was provided with a bed and kitchen face. Meanwhile, the company has booked tickets for him on July 27, however, the dispute regarding his penalty is not yet resolved.
