New Delhi: Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu created history on the second day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. She has won the first gold medal for the country in the women’s 49 kg category. He set a record for the category in the sport lifting 201 KG and secured the first position.
Earlier, Chanu lifted 84 kg weight in his first attempt. In the second attempt, he equaled his personal best by lifting a weight of 88 kg. However, in the third attempt, she tried to lift 90 KG but failed in it. After this, Chanu lifted 109 kg weight in her first attempt of clean and jerk and ensured the gold medal. Lifted 113 KG weight in the second attempt. Tried to lift 114 KG weight in the third attempt but she could not succeed.
After failing in the third attempt, Chanu lifted 202 kg weight by combining snatch and clean and jerk and won the gold medal. After Chanu, Marya Ranivosova of Mirissa won the silver medal with a weight of 172 kg. Whereas, Canada’s Hana Kaminsky managed to win the bronze medal by lifting 171 KG.
