Hong Kong: Jimmy Lai, a well-known media tycoon from Hong Kong, has had his bail rejected. This decision was taken by the apex court here after the prosecution’s request to send him back to custody.

It may be recalled that Lai was granted bail on December 23 after being detained for three weeks on charges of fraud and endangering national security. His appeal will now be heard on February one.

The court said on Thursday that it was “logically worth considering” that the former judge’s decision was flawed and that the bail order was not valid.

Lai was accused of forging the office lease terms of his company Next Digital on December 3. Subsequently, on December 12, a case was registered against him under the National Security Act enforced by Beijing on suspicion of endangering national security by colluding with foreign forces.
