Karnataka: Seize gold worth Rs 1.18 crore has been seized from three passengers who arrived here from the United Arab Emirates at Mangaluru Airport. Officials of the customs department (gold border tax department) said on Saturday that the gold was brought by smuggling and it has been seized in three separate incidents. In the first incident, two passengers hailing from Kasaragod in Kerala were stopped in the first incident, officials said.
Smuggled gold was seized from them. He said that one passenger came from Sharjah while the other passenger arrived here from Dubai. The value of gold seized from them is 26 lakh rupees.
On Saturday, a person living in Ullal was intercepted and seized gold recovered from him, officials said. He said that the value of gold seized from him is Rs 92.27 lakh.
