E-Pind Daan

Gaya, Bihar: The ancient city of Gaya is gearing up for the annual Pitru Paksha Mela, a sacred event that honors ancestors. This year, the Mela will commence on September 17th and continue until October 2nd. Let’s delve into the rich traditions and innovative arrangements for Pind Daan during this auspicious period.

The Tradition of Pind Daan

For centuries, pilgrims have flocked to Gaya to perform Pind Daan a ritual offering to their departed ancestors. The holy river Falgu, with its serene banks, becomes the sacred site for this solemn act of salvation. Families believe that by performing Pind Daan, they can free their ancestors’ souls from earthly bonds.

Innovative Arrangements for Pind Daan

1. E-Pind Daan: A Blessing from Afar

Recognizing the challenges faced by those unable to visit Gaya physically, the Bihar Tourism Corporation has introduced e-Pind Daan. Now, devotees from around the world can participate in this sacred ritual from the comfort of their homes. The process is simple: online booking through the Tourism Corporation’s website allows relatives to arrange Pind Daan for their ancestors. Even family members residing abroad can participate, bridging geographical gaps.

2. Comprehensive Package

The e-Pind Daan package includes essential materials for the ritual, worship items, and the Brahmin’s Dakshina (offering). The cost for this year’s Pind Daan is Rs 21,500, with an additional service charge of Rs 1429. After factoring in a 5% GST, the total fee stands at Rs 23000.

3. Rituals at Sacred Sites

Upon booking, the Pind Daan ceremony is meticulously performed. Devotees can witness the rituals at the revered Vishnu temple, Akshay Vat, and the Falgu River Pind Bedi. The entire process is recorded, and a video is sent to the devotees via a pen drive by postman courier. This ensures that families know their ancestors’ Pind Daan has been conducted with utmost reverence.

Pitru Paksha Fair

As the Mela approaches, preparations are in full swing. From September 17th to October 2nd, Gaya will be abuzz with pilgrims seeking to honor their forebears. The fair offers a unique blend of spirituality, tradition, and community.
