New Delhi: Geeta Press Gorakhpur, one of the world’s largest and prestigious publishers, has been selected for the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 this time. After deliberations chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has been unanimously decided to select Geeta Press Gorakhpur as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize. The Ministry of Culture has announced this selection.

The Gandhi Peace Prize is a prestigious annual award instituted by the Government of India, given every year since 1995. The award carries an amount of Rs 1 crore, a citation. Past award winners include organizations such as ISRO, Ramakrishna Mission, Grameen Bank of Bangladesh, Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, Akshaya Patra, Bengaluru, Ekal Abhiyan Trust, India, and Sulabh International, New Delhi.

Gandhi Peace Prize Late Dr. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, Dr. Julius Nyerere, former President of Tanzania, Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Founder President of Sarvodaya Shramdaan Movement, Sri Lanka, Dr. Gerhard Fischer, Federal Republic of Germany, Baba Amte, Dr. John Hume, Ireland, Vaclav Havel, Former President of Czechoslovakia, Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, Chandi Prasad Bhatt and Yohi Sasakawa has been given to Japan.

Unanimous selection
The Gandhi Peace Prize was discussed under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and unanimously decided to select Geeta Press Gorakhpur as the recipient of this prize for the year 2021.
