Alcanar: Floods triggered by heavy rains in north-eastern Spain’s Alcanar city on Thursday damaged several homes and business establishments. Local residents said that no casualty was reported in the flash floods on Wednesday evening.
“We climbed into our apartment and left everything to God,” said Rosa Maria Sansho, owner of the restaurant in Alcanar. How severe the flood was, can be gauged from the fact that many cars were washed away in the water. Homes and business establishments were filled with mud, water, and debris.
Other parts of central and northern Spain, including Madrid, also witnessed flood-like conditions on Wednesday. Firefighters used helicopters to rescue three people from grave danger. Local authorities escorted 58 people to the hotel and 16 others spent the night at the sports pavilion.
