Berlin: More than 55,000 animals are feared dead due to fire at a pig breeding center in north-eastern Germany. The director of the center gave this information on Thursday. A spokeswoman for the operator told the German communications agency DPA that the fire at the center in Alt Tälin in north-eastern Germany began on Tuesday and quickly spread to parts of the center where the animals were kept. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.

According to the spokesman, more than 55,000 animals died in the fire and only about 1,300 animals could be saved. The center is one of the largest centers of its kind and on Wednesday, people protested against the incident. The protesters were shouting slogans like “Stop the atrocities on animals”.
