New Delhi: World Rabies Day is celebrated every year on 28 September all over the world. Rabies is a virus transmitted through animal bites. History of World Rabies Day
Let us tell you that celebrating this day started in France. Actually, this ‘World Rabies Day’ is celebrated on the occasion of the death anniversary of the famous microbiologist and chemical Louis Pasteur of France. Louis Pasteur is the one who discovered the rabies vaccine. For the prevention of rabies, awareness is brought about it through World Rabies Day.

Let us tell you that this year is the 16th year of ‘World Rabies Day 2022’. This day is organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). Its main objective is to achieve the goal of ‘Zero human deaths from rabies by the year 2030’.

Learn How To Prevent Rabies
All countries are working globally to prevent this infection of rabies. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has implemented the “National Rabies Control Program” with the objective of preventing human mortality due to rabies and prevention of rabies infection through rabies (canine) control.

As per the program, public awareness should be created about rabies, the importance of the need for medical care immediately after a dog bite, and various preventive measures. People should be educated about the following facts-

  • Educate people, especially children, about dog behavior and body language (such as anger, suspiciousness, and friendliness) to avoid dog bites.
  • To prevent rabies, take post-exposure vaccination (post-bite vaccination) for dog bites.
