New Delhi: The Delimitation Commission has completed the delimitation of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The Commission has also issued a resolution for the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly of the state. Along with this, suggestions and objections have also been sought on the ongoing proposal. Since then the discussion has started that elections can be held in the state in the coming few days.
The commission has invited suggestions and objections till March 21 on the proposal issued. According to the resolution issued, the commission has kept five Lok Sabha seats in the state. In which no seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. With this, 90 seats have been fixed by increasing the number of seats in the state assembly. In which seven to nine seats have been kept for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively. This will be the first time that there will be reservations for SC and ST in Jammu and Kashmir.
24 seats for PoK
The Delimitation Commission has fixed 114 seats for the state assembly. Under which elections will be held on 90 seats. While 24 seats have been earmarked for Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The delimitation commission work is in its final stages. In this sequence, the members of the commission are going to visit the state on March 28. In this visit, the committee will try to know the ground reality of the state.
It is to be known that on August 5, 2019, the Central Government had removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. With this, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the State Reorganization Act in the Lok Sabha. After which the state was divided into two parts. Where Jammu and Kashmir were made a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly. At the same time, Ladakh has declared a union territory without a legislature. Presently former Union Minister Manoj Sinha is the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
