New Delhi: Soon the common man of Maharashtra is going to face a lot of trouble because now the electricity bill in the state is going to be expensive. Yes, to make up for the economic loss in the new financial year, Mahavitaran, the electricity distribution company, is not seeing any other way. In such a situation, Mahavitaran has now decided to put the entire burden of loss on the head of the poor customers. Due to this, a proposal has been made to increase the electricity bill by 37% in the coming time. Mahavitaran has given this proposal to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
According to information, a 37% hike in electricity rates has been proposed for the next two years. According to this proposal, the increase in the rates of electricity given in domestic, commercial, and rural i.e. in all areas has almost been fixed now.
MERC approval awaited for Mahavitaran’s proposal
Be aware that the electricity rate for the customers of Mahavitaran Company is fixed for 5 years. But there is also a mid-term analysis of these rates in the market. The currently issued rate was implemented in April 2020. In such a situation, after the review this time, a proposal has been made by Mahavitaran, after getting the approval of MERC, it will now be implemented from April 2023 this year.
Why there may be an estimated rate for domestic electricity consumption
Where at present the customers consuming domestic electricity get electricity at a minimum of Rs.3.36/per unit. At the same time, from April 1, 2023-24, this rate may increase to Rs 4.50/unit. In such a situation, now if we look at the maximum per unit rate, then it is likely to increase from Rs.11.86 to Rs.16.60/unit. The same rate is proposed to be further increased to Rs 5.10 and Rs 18.70/unit in the year 2024-25.
How expensive will commercial electricity be?
Now let’s talk about commercial electricity, where at present they are getting electricity at the rate of at least Rs.7.7 and Rs.9.60/unit. Now it seems likely to be available at the rate of Rs 12.76 and Rs 17.40 per unit. The same rate is proposed to be increased to Rs 11.20 in 2024-25. On the other hand, it is proposed to increase this electricity rate per unit from Rs 5.11 to Rs 6.50/unit to Rs 6.90 and Rs 8.20/unit for small-scale industries. In such a situation, there are full possibilities of lightening the pockets of the people of the state by the Electricity Department in the coming times.
