New Delhi: A bone-chilling cold wave swept through the national capital today, blanketing the city in dense fog and severely disrupting transportation. With visibility reduced to near zero on many routes, the Delhi Airport issued an urgent advisory, alerting passengers to potential delays in flight operations throughout the day.

Flight Operations Affected

While flight operations at Delhi Airport were running smoothly in the early hours, authorities cautioned that delays could occur as the day progresses.

In an advisory, the airport urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for real-time updates. SpiceJet posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status.”

Dense Fog Disrupts Train Services

The weather conditions also wreaked havoc on train schedules. At least 24 trains departing from or arriving in Delhi are running late, while several others are operating with modified timings.

The fog’s impact extends beyond Delhi, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that other cities like Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar, and Guwahati are also experiencing dense fog.

IMD Issues Weather Advisory

The IMD has predicted that the cold wave in Delhi will continue for the next couple of days, with minimum temperatures dropping to 8.5°C and maximum temperatures hovering around 20°C. Dense to very dense fog is expected to persist today and tomorrow, causing disruptions in daily life.

Adding to the weather woes, IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall in the capital on January 6, along with snow and rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
