Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj Passes Away: He breathed his last in New Jersey, USA. Jasraj was one of the famous classical singers of India. His daughter Durga Jasraj has given this information. P. Jasraj spent over 80 years in the music world and received several major awards. He was awarded the Padma Vidhushan by the Government of India. On his death, folk music singer Malini Awasthi expressed sorrow on Twitter that Padmavibhushan Pandit Jasraj, the pride of Mewati Gharana, was no more. Today he breathed his last in America. Jasraj was born on 28 January 1930 in a family that had the distinction of giving one to one artisan to Indian classical music for 4 generations. His father Pandit Motiram ji himself was a distinguished musician of the Mewati Gharana. Jasraj was related to the Mewati family.

Jasraj died when his father Pandit Motiram died when he was four years old and was brought up under the patronage of elder brother Pandit Maniram. His performances of classical and semi-classical vocals have also been composed as album and film soundtracks.

Jasraj taught music in India, Canada, and America. Some of his disciples also became musicians. He has done extensive research on ‘Haveli Sangeet’ under Baba Shyam Manohar Goswami Maharaj and has created many new restrictions. His most important contribution is in Indian classical music.
