New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the first fully developed pneumonia vaccine has been approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). DCGI, with the help of the Special Expert Committee (SEC) for vaccines, reviewed the first, second and third phase data of the clinical trial handed over by the Pune-based company Serum Institute of India and launched the ‘Pneumococcal Polysaccharide conjugate vaccine’. Gave permission. This vaccine will be injected.
The ministry said the vaccine would be used extensively to prevent pneumonia. The Serum Institute of India received approval from DCGI to conduct the first, second, and third stage clinical trials of the vaccine in India. It has also been tried in Gambia. The company then sought permission to make and sell the vaccine. The ministry said that the Special Expert Committee advised to allow the production and sale of vaccines. Based on this, on July 14, the Serum Institute of India Private Limited was allowed.
