Mumbai: Police on Saturday dismissed reports of imposition of curfew in Mumbai and appealed people not to believe in false rumors regarding Section 144 in the city. The police clarification came a day after reports of curfew being imposed in the Maharashtra capital.

Mumbai’s Joint Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangare Patil said, “It is rumored that section 144 of CrPC is applicable in Mumbai. This is wrong and causing confusion. For those who want to disturb peace in the city by taking out rallies illegally, an advisory is issued every 15 days and it has no effect on the lives of the people. I appeal to all not to believe in such false rumors (about imposition of section 144 in the city) and not to spread confusion.

It may be noted that on December 2, several media reports claimed that the Mumbai Police has issued an order prohibiting gatherings of more than four-five people and banning the use of loudspeakers till January 2. has been installed. At the same time, strict action will be taken against those who violate these orders.

Reports also claimed that arms, fire arms, swords and other weapons would be banned in the city from 4 December 2022 to 2 January 2023. Apart from this, reports also claimed that there was a complete ban on sloganeering, demonstrations and performance of songs in public places during this period.
