New Delhi: A Russian court on Tuesday sentenced jailed Alexei Navalny to nine years in prison for fraud. He is considered a staunch critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He made many sensational revelations about Putin. He was arrested on his return to Russia last year. He has also been fined 12 lakh rubles. Navalani is currently serving a two-and-a-half-year prison term in a Moscow prison in another case. Navalny, however, dismissed the latest criminal case against him as politically motivated and pleaded not guilty.
Alexey Navalny was accused of embezzling money through his organization and, at the same time, in previous cases, he has been accused of insulting the judge. However, his supporters say that the Putin government wants to keep Alexei in jail for as long as possible due to fear. Navalny has called the allegations leveled against him fake. They were tried in a temporary court and all this was done to avoid the media. However, Navalani had called the allegations baseless and false even in this court.
Alexei Navalny is considered a strong critic of President Vladimir Putin. He has consistently opposed corruption in Putin’s United Russia party.
