London: Covid-19 patients are at greater risk of death from a heart attack. A study published on Friday stated that women are particularly more sensitive in this matter. Studies in Sweden have found that women exposed to Covid-19 are nine times more likely to die of a heart attack.
The study, published in the journal ‘European Heart’, states that it included 1,946 people who suffered a heart attack at another location outside the hospital between January 1 and July 20, while 1,080 were included. This happened in the hospital together.
According to researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, 10 percent of hospitalized heart attack patients were infected with the coronavirus, while 16 percent of such patients were out of the hospital.
He said that the risk of people dying of heart attack in the hospital within 3.4 days had increased by 3.4 times, while those who had been out of the hospital had 2.3 times higher risk of dying in the same period. Pedrum Sultanian, a medical student at the University of Gothenburg and the first author of the study, said, “Our study clearly shows that having a heart attack and getting infected with the coronavirus is a deadly combination.”
