Mumbai: On Thursday, 8,646 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported in Mumbai. More than 43 thousand new cases have come up in the state in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Mayor of Mumbai Kishori Pednekar has said that a decision will be taken on whether or not the lockdown will take place in Mumbai. Pednekar hinted that a lockdown could soon take place in Mumbai and an announcement in this regard could be made on Friday.
According to the Health Department, 18 more patients died of the epidemic in Mumbai in the last 24 hours, while 5,031 patients were discharged from the hospital after treatment. The total cases of infection in Mumbai have increased to 4,23,360 and so far 3,55,691 people have been cured of the disease. According to the health department, 11,704 patients have died so far from Covid-19 and 55,005 patients are under treatment.
On the other hand, 88,710 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Mumbai in March this year, which is 475 percent more than the total cases reported in February. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gave this information. This year, there were 18,359 cases in the city in the month of February, while in January this figure was 16,328. This means that in March, there were 70,351 more cases in Mumbai than in the previous month. At the same time, there were 72,382 more cases than in January.
According to the data, 216 people died here due to infection in March, while 119 people died in February. The figure for March is 181 percent higher than in February. In January, 237 people died of the infection. By March 31, the number of infected people in the city had increased to 4,14,714, while the number of dead had reached 11,686.
According to BMC data, on March 31, 51,411 patients were undergoing treatment, while at the end of February only 9,715 patients were being treated. With the increase in infection cases in Mumbai, the rate of recovery had come down to 85 percent at the end of March, compared to 93 percent at the end of February.
According to the data, the growth rate of infection increased from 0.28 percent recorded at the end of February to 1.37 percent by the end of March. At the same time, the duration of doubling of the cases also decreased from 245 to 49 days. In Mumbai, a significant increase in the number of infection cases was started from mid-February, but at that time there was not much increase in the number of dead. However, since last week, the number of dead has also started increasing worryingly, so far more than 11.52 lakh doses of vaccine have been given to the people in the city.
