Chhattisgarh was declared as the cleanest state in the country in the annual cleanliness survey-2021 announced by the central government. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the awards to the winners on Saturday. On this occasion, President Kovind said that Mahatma Gandhi had said that cleanliness should be the top priority, and keeping in mind this priority of Gandhiji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took forward the Swachh Bharat Mission as a mass movement. He said that he has been told that 35 states and union territories and urban areas have become open defecation-free.

President Ram Nath Kovind said that the biggest success of the Swachh Bharat Mission is a change in the thinking of the country where now even small children of the house stop and interrupt the elders from spreading dirt. Kovind said that manual scavenging on the head is a shameful practice and the responsibility of stopping it is not only of the government but of the society and all the citizens of the country. He suggested that machine cleaning facilities should be made available in all cities. The President also talked about adopting good practices and practices of cleanliness award-winning cities.
4320 were included in the clean survey
At the same time, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said in a statement that the cities certified under the category of garbage-free cities, on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India garbage-free under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, will be included in this function. will also be rewarded. According to the ministry, this time 4320 cities and towns have been included in the Swachh Survekshan, which is the largest cleanliness survey in the world. At the start of this move in 2016, only 73 major cities were included in the survey.
Received more than five crore feedbacks this year
In a statement issued earlier on Friday, the ministry said that ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ is being organized on Saturday and in this the contribution of sanitation workers by recognizing the best performing cities under the Ministry’s initiative ‘Safaimitra Security Challenge’. will be appreciated. “The success of this year’s survey is judged on the basis of the number of feedbacks received from citizens this time,” the ministry said. This time more than five crore feedbacks came. This number was 1.87 crore last year.
Regarding ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’, the ministry said that there has been a significant improvement in the performance of states and cities at the ground level. For example, six states and six union territories have improved their performance at the grassroots level by five to 25 percent, it said.
