What is the decision of the state government?
In Maharashtra, it has been made mandatory for every cinema operator to show Marathi films for four weeks a year. State Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar told that if this rule is not followed, the theater operator will be fined Rs 10 lakh. Mungantiwar tweeted that a meeting was held in Mantralaya yesterday to provide theaters and prime time for Marathi films. It was decided in the meeting that for not showing Marathi films for four weeks in a year, a fine of Rs 10 lakh would be imposed on the theater owner at the time of license renewal.
Action instructions to the Home Department
In another tweet by Mungantiwar in this regard, he said that the Culture Department has informed the Home Department to take criminal action in this regard. In this meeting, it was also decided not to increase the rent of single-screen theatres. In this meeting, there was a detailed discussion about the promotion and dissemination of Marathi films. The film director, producer, distributor, and concerned officials were present on the occasion. Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that a modus operandi would be worked out for the screening of Marathi films in theatres.
